2018 Sorority Travels

Sunday, December 16, 2018

It's my last week in the office of 2018 and also the time to reflect on how I've spent my THIRD year with Alpha Xi Delta (crazy right?!). My job doesn't require that I spend a ton of time traveling or even visiting the chapters I work with. However, there are numerous opportunities to work with our volunteers, provide educational opportunities to our members, and participate in professional development. I traveled six times this year spanning a total of nearly 9,000 miles (also crazy)!

Area Wide Training | January | Stillwater, OK

We offer a wide range of both virtual and face-to-face training opportunities for our membership. In an officer's term, one of the first face-to-face opportunities our leaders have is to attend an Area Wide Training where they meet and learn alongside other chapter officers in their area/region. This year I attended my first AWT as a staff member to facilitate a few sessions and meet with some of our Epsilon Omicron Chapter members at Oklahoma State University. Our chapter at OSU is considered a "new" chapter and therefore falls within my responsibility to oversee their recruitment planning and efforts.

The Workout | June | College Park, MD

One of my FAVORITE events of the year! The Workout is our yearly training opportunity for Membership Vice Presidents and other recruitment related chapter leaders. This is by far my favorite event because our volunteer team serves as small-group facilitators and it provides us all a chance to see one another!

Volunteer Leadership Conference | June | Dallas, TX

Volunteer Leadership Conference (VLC) allows national volunteers to spend a weekend getting to know other Sisters who are serving in national volunteer roles, while using their ideas and talents for the betterment of the Fraternity. This conference is a time for brainstorming, collaboration and much more. VLC is held in off-Convention years. Click here to watch our video recap!

Release Figures Methodology Lite Training | July | Indianapolis, IN

Release Figures Methodology (RFM) is the mathematical model in which invitations during sorority formal recruitment are issued. The jist is that the more potential new members that want your chapter, the more selective your chapter gets to be. This training opportunity was given to help those who work either at the headquarters level, like myself, or campus-based professionals a chance to understand the inner workings of the method more. I also had the opportunity to revisit the National Panhellenic Conference office!

Program Design School | September | Carmel, IN

PDS is a professional development opportunity for anyone hoping to learn more about program development. My role with Alpha Xi Delta requires that I develop and facilitate a variety of recruitment-related programs and this event was the perfect way to gain more knowledge in this area! Read more about it here or check out the program's website here!

Recruitment Retreat | December | Atlanta, GA

Another favorite yearly event of mine! This year our Recruitment Territory Directors went on a retreat to gain new skills, discuss successes and opportunities for improvement from 2018, as well as set some new goals for the year ahead. Just a few weeks prior to this trip we also welcomed one of my best friends and sorority "little" to our staff as the Membership Growth Coordinator! She will be serving priority chapters with all things recruitment and this weekend was her first face-to-face staff experience. I couldn't be more proud or excited to watch her grow in this position.
