Steel Magnolias Themed Bridal Shower

in , by Mackenzie Elaine Wasilick, July 30, 2020
This past weekend we held my Steel Magnolias themed bridal shower in Emerald Isle, NC. For those that haven't seen it, it's a classic southern bridal movie with stars like Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, and Sally Fields. Guests were asked to wear their favorite shade of "blush and bashful" which are Shelby's (Julia Roberts) wedding colors in the movie. In her words "I have chosen two shades of pink. One is much deeper than the other".

These few days spent surrounded by my friends and family were so good for my heart. This year has been the first that I have lived outside of North Carolina and while I love being here, there are times where being so far from family and friends feels difficult. I know that the decision to move forward with this event was not easy for everyone, but I couldn't feel more blessed or loved during my time as a bride.

I couldn't write this post without acknowledging the world's best hosts. Renee Baker, Susan Everett, Debra Schisler, Kris Shoffner, Jill Nielsen, and Cheri Getsinger - some of the kindest women I know. The event was hosted at Kris Shoffner's home in Emerald Isle and she has been the real MVP for this corona bride. My bachelorette party in DC was cancelled and she helped us quickly pivot the weekend to her home with the most fabulous pool. She's truly one of the most caring and giving people.

Renea, Susan, and Debra have known me almost my entire life. They were cheer-moms at ECCATS and I grew up counting 5-6-7-8 with their daughters well into our teenage years. I also love our memories gathering for vacations and holidays over the years. They were our fabulous food and beverage committee - I'm definitely going to follow up for the recipes because everything was divine.

Cheri was on our decorating committee! I've grown up close with her family and one of her daughters even babysat my brother and I for a few summers. If you don't know her, you're missing out - she is a hoot! Last, but certainly not least, is Jill. Jill and her daughters, Kate and Hayden, are practically family to me. Jill will go above and beyond for those she loves and I feel so fortunate to be in that camp. As those who witnessed the shower can attest, she is a master party planner and the driving force behind bringing this theme to life.

On the menu:
Shrimp and grits casserole, tomato pie casserole, mini chicken and waffles, veggie cups, pineapple casserole, pimento cheese topped cucumber rounds, and chicken salad topped cucumber rounds, sugar cookies, and red velvet armadillo cake!

There was also a fabulous champagne and rose bar cart (pictured below) where each guest had a monogrammed flute as a party favor!

My Greenville gals!
Can't believe it's been almost ten years since we graduated high school.
Andrew's mother - I really lucked out with this one!

The most unexpected gift was surprisingly not the Four Lokos (thank you Miller and Kirsten), however, was a ring that came from my Aunt Beth. The emerald and diamond ring was designed to remaster a few of the pieces that her husband (my uncle) has given her throughout their long and happy marriage. It is stunningly gorgeous and I cannot wait to wear it as my "something old" on our wedding day.

My sweet Alpha Xi Deltas!
THE famous red velvet armadillo cake - made by local baker, Beth Browder!

My family. Over the years our Brady Bunch has grown and grown.
I'm so thankful for each of them.

I truly could not have had a better weekend and the list of those to thank is endless. It was the perfect way to kick off our final 30 days until we become husband and wife!
